Cities XL 2011 is a city simulator developed by Focus Home Interactive. Cities XL 2011 is the second game in the Cities XL franchise. The game focuses on a single-player mode, and was released on October 14, 2010. New features include more buildings and maps, improved public transport, an enhanced tax system, and better trading options.
The game was officially announced by Focus Home, who took over the game license when Monte Cristo struggled with their finances and later announced the company would shut down their studio which is based in Paris, France. In early July 2010 Focus Home Interactive announced they had taken control of the Cities XL 2011 license.
The first thing to do when you are in the map is connect it with the “outside world”. Then, you have to build the city hall and the utility center. In the beginning, all you have are unskilled workers that will strive in plants and farms, so that you will then get access to skilled office workers. The other two social ranks are the executives and the elites, with the last also being the highest tax payers. All of them need shops to buy food and clothing, then entertainment, education, hospitals, police... All these options are gradually unlocked in direct dependency to the number of inhabitants of the city.
The population grows efficiently only if there are enough working places and houses to accommodate the workers.
Commercial areas also depend on resources, so you need to have manufacturing set up. If the shops don’t have resources, neither the buyers are pleased, nor the businesses bring money to the budget or to their owners. From here, bankruptcy is only a step away.
